This beautiful room was in need of some tlc, having last been decorated several years ago. A big space, with good natural light flooding in through the large bay window, it was serving many functions: a work space, a music room, and a place where guests can sleep on the sofa bed. However it wasn’t being fully utilised as a living room, in spite of the TV and pair of armchairs, and the client wanted to address this. She also wanted the room to look – and feel – transformed. The 1930s style fireplace was a distinctive feature that we agreed we should embrace, rather than remove or disguise. It provided a way in to the decorative scheme, as did the client’s preferred colours and styles.
The scheme combines luxury and simplicity: the luxury of the Cole & Son Wallpaper and crystal chandeliers and wall lights contrasts with the simplicity of the Sanderson striped wallpaper, the slate grey carpet and the plantation shutters.
While the room still serves all its original functions, it is also now regularly used as its primary function – a living room. The transformation has been achieved.
